(N-methyl-N’nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine) produces diazomethane when treated with an aqueous alkali. This co-distillation produces small quantities required for analytical purposes.
One millimole (147 mg) of nitrosoguanidine is placed within the inner tube along with a 1/2 mL of water to dissipate generated heat.
Approximately 3 mL of ether is placed in the outer tube and the assembly is completed, using a size 120 ethylene-propylene o-ring (758292-0120) and a size 35 pinch clamp (675000-0035).
The lower part of the generator is placed in an ice bath and about 0.6 mL of 5 N sodium hydroxide is injected very slowly, drop by drop, to avoid excessive foaming and back pressure. This is injected through the silicone rubber ...
(9) Cylindrical and round bottom vessels have an internal thread for use with a PTFE bushing as a pressure seal. Unique design allows hand tightening and loosing for easy access into the vessel. The o-ring is positioned on the bushing above the thread for a positive seal. The vessels are useful for pressure reactions and applications such as polymerization and analysis of halogens by thermal decomposition in the presence of lime. Complete units supplied with bushing and Viton® o-ring. Pressurized glassware should always be used behind adequate safety shielding.
